Assignment 11: Idea Napkin No. 1
1) You.
My name is Nicole Pulido,
I’m a second-year student with a major in Business Management and minor in
French. Having grown up in a nature-loving family I have a fondness for the
environment which perhaps can be illustrated through my opportunity. I feel that
being able to come up with something that will eventually help to lower those statistics
I’ve talked about in the long term would have a big impact in my life. I feel
like it would be a big first step towards making a difference when it comes to
the environment and would motivate me to keep doing things that will allow me
to fulfill that responsibility I feel I have with our planet.
2) What are you offering to customers? My product is an app whose purpose is
to keep people accountable. In other words, it is an app that will remind those
who can be a bit too busy sometimes and/or can be forgetful when it comes down
to using food they’ve bought before it goes bad. Customers simply download an
app and then get a card delivered to them which is connected to the app. The way they are connected is that once the
customer arrives at the cash register, they give their card to be swiped, which
then logs in the information for every (food) item they bought. This
information consists of how much of that product they bought and when this
product is meant to expire/go bad. Now every time they use this product, they
have to login how much of it they used so the app can then keep track of how
much they have left and remind the person to use it before it goes bad.
3) Who
are you offering it to? I am offering it to students and/or young
adults who are living on their own for the first time and cook at least 70% of their
meals at home.
4) Why
do they care? I believe that customers will use my product because it
is simple to use, easy to get and a fast solution to a problem that is not just
harming them financially but is also harming the environment.
5) What
are your core competencies? As far as I’m concerned, there isn’t a
competitor who has a solution like mine or a solution at all, to tackle this
issue firsthand. As I said earlier, my app is easy to use and get and pretty
much does the work and organizing for the customer, so it’s an attractive solution.
I
believe that these elements fit well together. However, there are a few aspects
that are weaker than others. These include knowing how to identify those who
are living on their own for the first time as well as knowing how to promote
and advertise the app. I haven’t really thought too much about these aspects
but I’m sure that after actually putting some thought into it I’ll be able to
come up with a strategy.
Hey Nicole! I love this idea but I think it can be targeted towards anyone really. Working in food service I tend to eat out a lot but I would find this app helpful even though less than 70% of my meals are cooked at home. I think this could also motivate people to eat at home more and save money. I think that people would be drawn to this app over others because it also helps out the environment. I definitely think a lot of planning has to go behind this app but with the right information for the user to access, it could be super useful for anyone!
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole, I think that this app is a great idea. I personally eat majority of my meals at home and struggle with this problem. It will save students money but also benefit the environment. I like how you explained the environmental part of this issue. This app seems like it would be a very useful and easy to use tool.
