Assignment 3: My Entrepreneurship Story

Surprisingly enough a very old memory came to my mind of something I came up with when I was about 9 years old. It all started because I felt like water was being wasted. For example, the small intervals during which you aren’t actually using water while you are brushing your teeth. Moments like that. As I started to think of what to do, I got the random idea of tying a Ziploc over the faucet and making two small holes on the sides where the water would come out. The purpose of this was to see how much water one had “left” to use. For example, you would squeeze the bag to get just enough water to wet your toothbrush and brush your teeth and then to clean it afterwards instead of letting the water just run. So basically, instead of letting the faucet run, you had to squeeze the water out of the bag to get just the amount you needed and then leave the rest there to use later on. Was it impractical? Yes. Did it look good? No. Did it work? Well, I prefer to remember it as something that did. So, that’s my small entrepreneurship story. I was concerned with wasting water and I tried to come up with something that, at least made me feel like, solved the issue. I remember using this technique for almost a month, but eventually it just became tedious and I stopped. I do not consider myself to be creative or much of a problem solver but looking back at this I feel pretty proud that I tried to solve an issue that was important to me.

  1. Hey Nicole, great post!

It interesting that at such a young age, you were thinking about the water that was being wasted and what a creative idea to use the Ziploc to test how much was actually being wasted. Good on you to actually implement these water saving in your everyday routine, I know letting the faucet run can be a huge waste of water.

  2. Nicole, wow! 9 years old is very young to be coming up with ground breaking ideas. And to do it so that you can help reduce water usage is even more impressive. This is a fascinating idea but I had a feeling you made your bathroom a mess. Great post!
