Bug List: Assignment 2
Bug List
1.
People who
walk in the middle of the sidewalk (when there is no bike lane) and aren’t
aware of bikers trying to pass.
Why?
They probably are not aware that they are walking in the middle because they
are on their phones.
2.
Buildings
where you can hear, literally everything, because the walls are so thin.
Why?
The material used when building the apartment walls was probably drywall or a
material with little insulation.
3.
The
bathroom door of my bathroom that opens inwards instead of outwards, so I feel
pretty cramped.
Why?
The apartment designers decided to make it that way.
4.
Tupperware
that gets stained after they have red sauce in them.
Why?
The plastic is prone to getting stained.
5.
Gum under
the table.
Why?
People can be inconsiderate and stick their gum under the table rather than
throwing it into the trash
6.
When you
get to a library table and it’s really dirty.
Why?
People don’t really consider cleaning after themselves.
7.
That my
apartment has bike racks out in the open; not in an enclosed room where they
can be stored more safely.
Why?
It was probably cheaper to have racks outside the apartment building rather
than make a bike room.
8.
That the
bike racks in my apartment building are u-racks, not grid racks, so people just
throw their bikes onto others.
Why?
Getting enough grid racks could have been more expensive.
9.
The rider
app can be very inaccurate sometimes.
Why? It
lacks speed and real-time information.
10.
When
bathroom doors have way too large of a gap and people can clearly see you.
Why?
They were built that way and were never considered to be replaced.
11.
People watching other videos or doing other
homework during a lecture.
Why?
Students get bored during a lecture and sometimes are doing last minute work or
start working ahead on other homework.
12.
When
people don’t clean the equipment at the gym after working out.
Why?
They might be too lazy to walk over and get the paper towel with cleaning spray
to clean.
13.
Professors
not giving the option to watch a lecture live.
Why?
They just decide they don’t want to do that.
14.
Parking at
the Nine at Gainesville.
Why?
They made the smallest parking spaces to maximize space.
15.
The lights
outside of my apartment (in the courtyard) NEVER turn off and bring a lot of
light in through my window at night.
Why?
They probably wanted to make the courtyards have a nice touch by hanging lights.
16.
So many
restaurants close by 10pm near campus.
Why?
They probably don’t have enough customers coming in after that time.
17.
When cars
are parked coming into the garage entrance at the Nine.
Why?
People find it convenient to just wait/park there rather than go in further
into the parking lot and then turn around.
18.
When
people don’t pick up after their dogs.
Why?
They probably don’t have a bag or just don’t want to do it.
19.
Alexa not
being able to understand my parents.
Why?
Alexa is programmed to understand “perfect” English, so when someone with a
slight accent speaks to her, she usually does not understand.
20.
Not being
able to invite friends over to my apartment because guest parking is so limited.
Why?
Making more parking for guests would have been more expensive and administration
probably determined it was not worth investing more money for more parking.
Reflection:
It was definitely harder than I thought to come up with this list but it helped me to visualize and go through a normal day for me and realize what things would be nice to change.
Hey Nicole, it was interesting to read your bugs. I feel like I learned about you and I don't even know you. You did a good job and I found most of these bugs relatable. The parking situation in Gainesville could definitely use some work, but I hear they prefer people use public transportation rather than vehicles. One of my bugs had to do with the traffic in this city. Good job.
ReplyDeleteNicole,
ReplyDeleteI often wondered why so many restaurants in Gainesville close at 10 pm as well. Restaurants have got to know that students would want to eat late. Perhaps restaurants could modified their menus or offer pickup only or delivery options. This would offer additional food options to students in the Gainesville area. It seems as though many of the bugs on the list can be resolve with basic common courtesy. How do we get people to respect others especially in the gym? Not wiping down equipment at the gym seems to be a big problem. I do not feel we can resolve parking unless we do a complete overhaul on the transportation and permits.
I completely agree with the last bug you came up with on the list. I feel like parking in Gainesville in general is a pain at some places. I also agree that all of the apartments I have lived in have had such thin walls. You can hear everything someone is saying in the next room over. I think that it was challenging to come up with all 20 bugs. It really made you think of day to day inconveniences more in depth.
