Assignment 18: Create a Custom Avatar

My custom avatar is an 18-year-old girl who has been the adoration of her parents since the day she was born. She is an only child and being such, her parents have always been overprotective. On top of that, since she has always been their “little” girl, they have always treated her like that; like a “little girl”. Her parents have always tried to give her the best and be as present as they can, since they both had parents that worked all day and couldn’t be as present throughout their childhoods. Having that in common, they decided to start a business together which has allowed them to work at home most of the time; so ever since she has memory she’s always been picked up from school and had someone to be at home with her. That being the case, her parents have always allowed her to focus on her studies and extracurriculars and made sure she has nothing else to worry about. That being said, to this day, her parents have never asked of her to do the normal things most kids/adolescents are required to do: do their beds, help with chores, cook, try and find a job..etc. The only thing that she voluntarily takes full responsibility for is her dog. She’s had him for 5 years and is her best friend. Usually if you see her somewhere, he’s with her.
Image result for dog and girlDespite sounding like a spoiled kid, she’s loved by everyone who knows her. From her neighbor’s 9-year-old daughter to the manager of the local frozen yogurtplace. She’s known for being kind, studious, charismatic, helpful and having a great sense of style. She is incredibly disciplined with her studies and plans out her work to the minute. She loves to paint, play the piano and learning languages, she’s currently perfecting her 5th – Russian. On her free time she religiously only watches mystery shows on Netflix and is constantly updating her playlists on Spotify. Although she sometimes wishes she has a sibling she loves the advantages of being the only one and finds that her dog is the only “sibling” she needs.
Now, after having lived 18 years of her life with her parents looking after her, for the first time ever she will be facing the world alone, with her dog, as she goes off to college. Her parents didn’t want her to suffer a bad experience with a roommate, so they decided to get her her own apartment just a few blocks away from campus. Her parents, of course, helped her move-in and get settled and said good-bye with a few emotional tears. She’s 3 days into living alone and she loves it. She misses her parents but she’s excited to finally start becoming more independent. The only thing is that it’s not going to be as easy or fun as she thinks. She’s going to have to learn how to balance responsibilities with the rest of the thing she wants to do, which is something her parents usually did for her.

What do I have in common with my avatar? Like my avatar, I am also an only child. I can also be a bit strict when it comes to my studies, but I like being that way. Starting college was also a new experience, as I was so used to always being with my mom and having her be my right hand but I feel like I actually have enjoyed learning to “adult” rather than been stressed about it. These similarities aren’t a coincidence because like my avatar, learning to be on my own was relatively new and sometimes you need a little help to learn to take on a new kind of responsibility. That’s why I came up with my idea, in order to help those that sometimes need a little bit of reminding in order to be more responsible.

  1. Hey Nicole, your customer avatar you have created is so in depth. I felt like I was reading a book about this person. It reminded me about how some authors know every little thing about the characters they create, even if they do not tell the reader everything about that character they still know. It seems as though you really know your customer very well.
